Ryan Adams-National Stadium Dublin 28th Nov

I have finally sat down to see my favourite artist performed after years of waiting, A trip to Dublin that has been dreamed of for so long had taken place last Wednesday night, I arrived sociably late , well had drinks beforehand was greeted by the cardinals in full flight as i found my seat in the dark of a dusty boxing hall in the heart of the city, The Scene was set there they were , everything was in place , nice number of warm up pints, good seats, good company (Thanks Clare & Cousins), A Singer and band who boosts a Discography that any artist would die for.

The Set list was one of the most unusual ones from the current tour as he picked unusual selection throughout his number of albums, 3 from heartbreaker, his first solo album for example, But it was clear tonight the cardinals were a tight unit and their 2007 tour as been a success, each song was magically pulled off to perfection and Ryan's Harmonies with fellow cardinal Neal Casal was on fire, Jon Graboff on pedal steel guitar just puts the finishing touch on this pristine outfit.

As with every gig there are always flaws maybe this is due to the fact that I have been waiting for this night for so long or I have been expected too much from Ryan, I have also listened to hundreds of Live performances from the 2007 tour and my standard was set very high already. The gig Lasted two hours and as we know this man has a serious amount of songs and know one in the audience had all their favourites sang due to the enormity of his back catalogue , maybe the set list could have been better, maybe he should have stopped his constant ramblings about Diet Coke and spiders between songs and maybe he should have just got on with the songs and made the concert seem as though he was taking us on a trip where the songs flowed and inter weaved between each other from a high number to a low soft number but hey as I said my standards were set way to high.

I really enjoyed the night in Dublin , Thanks to the cardinals for turning up and giving us some great memories and perfectly played music. I took some great highlights from the gig witnessing wild flowers, Sun also sets and Two live were superb. Cheers!

Seneca for the Big Screen

Local Limerick band Seneca have been chosen by a French Film Maker to Star in a new film Documentary about the life of a touring Irish Band. How brilliant! Seneca have been doing the rounds since 2005 and I have known the band for alot longer from different band names to different Band faces, It Seems Seneca now are a tight knit Group and this impeding film will sure to raise there profile even further.
Seneca are known for a hard working Limerick band and you are sure to find them playing in many music venues in the City, They can be found At Dolans on the 22 Dec & 28th of December playing support with bands such as The Frank And Walters and on the latter date support to the Hitchers.
I have had the pleasure of working with the lead singer Rob Hope on Wired Fm and Really like the sound this band are capable of Making, Their Single Smile has had Critical acclaim already reaching 27 in the Irish charts and No.1 in the Irish Download Charts, Also one of the bands songs featured on the Irish Album Ceol 07 . Looking Forward to seeing the Documentary, Keep up the good work Lads!

Must Buys This Month ( Happy Hallowen by the way)

As you might have noticed I am currently trawling through the ages of rock and I am at a current stop and awe fascination at the work of Neil Young. It started with the release of his live Massey Hall gig and now after hundreds of albums later including bands such as CSN, Buffalo Springfield and so on , we get to witness another new release from the great man.
Now when I say new release , Chrome Dreams II is a re release of an album that was bootlegged for many years and circulated between fans.

I wont ruin the true story or facts behind the album as it is all in the new December edition of Uncut Magazine. Neil tells us of the story's behind Chrome Dreams & Chrome Dreams II. It also gives us an insight into Mr.Young and his many years of talent.

That's not all as you can see above there is a free CD, This superb 16 Track CD is full of covers from various artists such as Sonic Youth, Paul Weller, The Flaming Lips and Many more covering classics from Mr.Young's Back Catalogue.

If you havent yet jumped into Neil Youngs Music why not treat yourself with Live at Massey Hall or Live Rust. Be warned it will lead you to buy all of his music and more.

They Must Have Known

Was in the pub the other night, Saturday night to be precise , on the tele, on came the young Mr.Dylan from one was his fine performances from the Newport festival. So i said to myself i would rack down said performance on DVD or CD.
So after finally remembering i said that to my self i went on the hunt and low and behold they are in the process of bringing out Dylan's Newport performances on DVD very soon , They must have known!

The soundtrack is a double disc including disc 1, track 1 with Eddie Vedder & The Million Dollar Bashers covering "All Along The Watchtower."
We Limerick people wont be getting to see it in the cinema I suppose after my annoyance of the Ian Curtis Film Not being shown due to lack of screens but they will show crap like superbad , savage film about a legend in the music world or a guy with a fake ID called McLovin, you know my choice

I Am loving the clip below, japenese subtitles sound check with the band and Maggie's Farm Live from Newport 1965, Check out the interview with the old ladies Classic!

New Album Nearly Done

Coldplay's New album is nearly upon us, They are currently according to their website organising the track listing, The website states that is shall be a short album about 40 mins or so of about nine songs, No Filler. The Tracks list so far is..
Lost!
Cemeteries of London
Violet Hill
Poppy Fields
42
Yes!
LeftRightLeftRightLeft
Rainy Day
Who Knows it will hopefully be out by spring 2008, I think it will most definitely be better than X&Y, as I thought it let the band down lyrically but listening back to it there are still some great tracks.

To Treasure & Keep

I have recently been trawling through the ages of music archives, and every once in awhile you will come across an album to treasure & keep.

One such album is that of Stephen Stills - Just Roll Tape. First the background to finding this gem, I was listening to alot of Neil young due to the re release of live at Massey hall, then that brought me to his classic albums which then went on to Crosby,Stills,Nash and Young's "Deja Vu" album, Anyway to cut a long story short, this album is when Still was working on an album for Judy Collins in a studio on the 26th April, 1968 and after the rehersal he literal said "Just Roll Tape" and rehearsed new songs of his post Buffalo Springfield's demise and some of these songs then went on to reappear on Crosby,Stills and Nash albums.

This collection lets you listen to a singer songwriter at his raw Early stage and makes you appreciate his music all the more. Stills, A guitar, a studio, years of skill and a catalogue of music any artist would aspire too. It is truly a superb listen.

Got My Free Album!

Its a Defining Day in music history, I just received Radioheads new album In Rainbows, As I mentioned last week it was up to the fans how much they wanted to pay for it, I paid zero cent and received it this morning after the first listen this is not a throwaway freebie, this album is worth paying for..
Here is the set list
1. 15 Steps
2. Bodysnatchers
3. Nude
4. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi
5. All I Need
6. Faust Arp
7. Reckoner
8. House of Cards
9. Jigsaw Falling into place
10.Videotape

After the first listen its a nice album and some really good radiohead gems, I'm already liking House of Cards & Videotape.
This Album has brought the digital age to a new extreme, Bands are going to follow the lead of this Inspirational Band , Already Oasis are planning a digital only release as well as the delorentos, Who's Next?
Is this the end of Music Corporations.....Surely not?

Mixed Reviews- They turned up at least!

The Police concert is met with mixed reviewed this morning so ill just recall as I saw it, Firstly paying 110 euro is a bit much for any band but I got my tickets for free (sweet!) so i cant really give out, Was situated on the cusack stand and was looking forward to these guys, support band was very good oddly very like sting himself but wait a minute its his son!, The main act arrive and blast into one of the old time favourites Message in Bottle- Stings voice in perfect quality, Drums sounds superb and electric guitar doing justice, Whats the problem i ask? Why the media back lash?
Crowd too old to enjoy? just a suggestion folks maybe then would have preferred a free blanket and mug of hot coco arriving to croker, Think about it, they arrived they played the classics maybe some were changed and jammed out a bit(if you want perfection Go home an fecking throw on the CD!). Maybe dust off the old tour t-shirts and get your ass down to gigs more often and less complaining. In my opinion i got what i expected and it was damm good, Cheers guys for a good night in Dublin!

Quality not great worth a look - Every little thing she does is magic Live@Croker

Be Online or Miss out Apparently?

Arcade Fire, those crazy cats from Canada, who have brought us one of the best albums all year Neon Bible(Havent heard it go get it!)Have posted on their website http://www.neonbible.com/yope.html an eye, eerily opening showing the date 6th of october.
Which when clicked on brings you to http://www.beonlineb.com/, here the 6th of october is displayed 11 times like above picture, Internet speculation is mounting and rumours of a giveaway or new album details is the talk of the day, either way we will find out very soon keep on the look out as arcade fire reveal all..........

Music Documentary Fever has hit!

Films about major music fiqures seems to be the "In Thing" , Recent success with the Johnny Cash Film, Film about Ray Charles and so on, Im not giving out i think their great , I personally really enjoyed the Cash film and opened my eyes to more albums of the legend such as his prison gigs at San Quentin and Folsom Prison.
Two new Films are in the pipeline which im very excited about firstly a film about the life of Ian Curtis, the Lead singer of Joy Division. The film is called control and is out next friday in a cinema near you. If you know joy divison purely for their hit "Love will tear us apart", I strongly advice you to go and buy their album Unknown Pleasures, Its a superb album that you will be returning to again and again.
The Next Cinema Release is a shock to me as i have only discovered his talent of late, Is a film about the life of Nick Drake. No music collection should be left without this mans albums such as Five leaves Left, Byter Later and Pink Moon. Drake is again like Curtis a Rock legend with a lot of baggage both of which died way before their time, These guys are worth learning about check them out and watch out for the films!

Dolans have some gems playing this October and November, Future Kings of Spain Next Friday, Tom Baxter on the 10th and Duke Special on the 23rd.

In November Damien Dempsey on 9th, Josh Ritter 29th and Declan O'Rourke on the 30th.

Highlight Being Josh Ritter in late Novemeber a must see, a frequent flyer to dolans and also brings a great show!

Check Him Out
